    Hi from another Kiwi

Hi Dave ! Nitro plane - something like an AT40 trainer ? You have some very nice spots to fly where you are, great scenery.

naza m v1 coaxial x8... in mind and i'll try

ok, looking at the specs, those motors each do 1800 grams of thrust (i would go with the 11 by 4.7, better efficiency, cooler running) so 8 motors, = 11.5 kg of thrust (including a 20% loss as a coaxial setup) 1/3 of 11.5kg = about 4kg, which is a safe flying weight. power consumption will...

Quad top and bottom plate size

Thats a good sized quad. I personally woukd go with a 6 to 7 inch plate as you have enough space. If you make the plates small with a large motor spacing you put alot of stress on the arms where they meet the centre A large centre alows you to mount all your gear nicely. Sent from my...

nah, its the fact you said they were good for 770 Kw :highly_amused: (that a tad over 1000 horse power)

    Over-flying houses.

I dont know of one brand of autonomous flight controller that has not unexpectedly had a "fly away" It does happen - do a search :) Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

    Over-flying houses.

Was/am being serious. I think there is a case that non-autonomous multirotors/helicopters/planes are used when around property and public - as it eliminates another very real risk - regardles of the brand of flight controller Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

    Over-flying houses.

Interesting point - about losing control and it flying away That would make a case for using non-autonomous flight controllers ( no gps position hold ) and making sure your fail safe is set to cut the motors. That way if you loose control it will drop to the ground within your "controlled...

    Over-flying houses.

agree, as long as you have written permission, and public access is controlled

End in sight for current MR designs!

first off - great discussion so far :) its great to be able to throw this sort of stuff around what i wonder about , is can a co-axial autorotate ? i would think the lower disc would block the upper @Dewster - you mean a bicopter ? theres a few around, have built a few myself - great fun

End in sight for current MR designs!

the point of quad/hex/octo/whatever multirotors is the fact they are based on simple motors and propellors , survive the odd impact and cheap to repair combined to a heli the above example is not :D there are a couple of quads that have had a pusher fan attached ( i played with a prototype...

Advice needed on Y6 motor redundancy

its exactly that Teamflail - if the lower motor fails and the prop is allowed to free wheel, it will react to the air from the top prop and act effectively like a solid disc. the only way around is to stagger the props so that they only partially overlap this vid dosent show the the bottom...

How do you surf MultiRotorForums.com? Poll attached

I always click on the general discussion subforum as the vendor specific stuff dosent apply to me ( home made frame and op controler) I used to click o the "new posts" but it was always full of dji threads :)

    Quadcopter racing

I think that you will find that the rules that apply to helis dont apply to multirotors, very different blades and set-up its just going to be a balancing act, getting enough static thrust out of a higher KV motor, on a pitchy prop to have enough thrust to take off thinking about my ritewing...

nah, its fine its actually showing responsible use, flying in a controlled enviroment, and any humans in the field of fire are wearing protective gear.

    New competition

i dont have an issue with it - its an AR drone for a start, light weight, designed to be flown in close proximity, and its a non military/non spy use of a piece of hardware, shows a fun use for a multi to Joe public. the only thing i would like to see is a light weight shroud around the props
