Castle Creations Speed controllers with WKM

I am using CC Phoenix ICE50 Lite with AXI2814/22 on 4S with a CarbonCore octo 1000. My build is mainly targeted at payloads up at 2-3 kg, but I have demonstrated it can handle 4kg. But at 4 kg, uncomfortable small margins and probably no redundancy in case of motor failure. For your payload...

Whats the "general" rule for motor and esc temps?

Well, personally I would be uncomfortable with ESC temps approaching 100 dec C. I think your thoughts about staying below 85C would be sound. And preferably at lower temps, absolutely.

Whats the "general" rule for motor and esc temps?

Here is the answer I got from an engineer at Castle Creations when I asked about max temps: You want to try to keep the ESC temps under 210'F to keep from degrading the components... the ESC will start to shut down around 250-275' F. For us who have difficulties with the obscure Farenheit...

    CarbonCore Octo 1000 setup???

@ghaynes - Thanks. Here are plots from the ESC1 and ESC7 CC data logs from the first flight (no rocketing in manual mode, only then it draws 240A). Seems it takes slightly less than 80% to hover. No margins for brutal manouvers but it felt like ordinary flying would work fine, though of course I...

Droidworx AD-8 Crash - Fault ANALysis

Hm. Two front side props being swapped with each other (CW-CCW)? How long are you going to keep us hanging? I will not get any sleep until ... :upset: And I agree with Bartman, very catching way of writing. Hope to read many intriguing crash reports from you :black_eyed:. /Tomas

Whats the "general" rule for motor and esc temps?

I can confirm that Xoar 14x5 works well with AXI2814/22 on 4S. I use with CC Phoenix Ice50 lite. No temp problem. You may be interested in my payload test video, providing some temp and amp readings. You find that video in the CarbonCore octa 1000 thread. Cheers/ Tomas

    5.12 on Hexa

Well, I don´t fly a hexa, but in this context Denny´s post seems relevant: http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?4683-DJI-WKM-Firmware-5.12-Update&p=47549&viewfull=1#post47549 Mind you, he had a failure, no conclusions of cause public yet.

DJI WKM Octo problem with 5.12

Well, we cannot say for sure that DJI is to blame, I think investigation is still in progress. But @janoots2 is not the first hexa to fall out of the sky on fw 5.12: http://www.multirotorforums.com/showthread.php?4683-DJI-WKM-Firmware-5.12-Update&p=47549&viewfull=1#post47549 @janoot2, maybe you...

DJI WKM Octo problem with 5.12

So now the fix is released - 5.12a Beta And DJI added a red text note about end users feeback. Unfortunately it does not clearly state that if you are using traditional receiver on an octa then you SHOULD use 5.12a Beta instead of 5.12. On has to read the change history document to figure that...

DJI WKM Octo problem with 5.12

Aviator - is that DJI announcment publicly available? Could you post a link, please? What I find when visiting DJI homepage is an invitation to upgrade to 5.12, nothing about problems found. IMHO, as soon as a reasonable doubt surfaces, implying risk of severe consequences, a clear warning...

    DJI WKM Firmware 5.12 Update

I believe 5.08 worked reliably and then the Assistant software would have been 1.26. I put the 1.26 installer in my dropbox if anybody needs it https://dl.dropbox.com/u/36968875/WooKongMInstaller_1.26.zip My octa, presently on 5.12, is grounded until the motors control issue is sorted out, or...
