Not trying to be offensive, but if you try to solder wires from 4mm diameter upwards with a 15W iron, you spend the whole weekend trying to get the job done. What you want is to get the spot you are soldering hot enough to merge the solder and the wire together WITHOUT heating the whole cable...

Maybe your 40Watt soldering iron is a bit weak....get at least a 60Watt iron....as Iris mentioned, you need the solder to melt quickly. Depends what batteries you are using. Your motors are running on 800 rpm per Volt applied. So with a 3S LiPo you would get: 3,7V x 3 x 800 = 8880 rpm, with a 5S LiPo you get: 3,7V x 5 x 800 = 14800 rpm...that's a huge difference. Either try a LiPo with 1S less than you have at the moment, or try...
