Can I get a little soldering advice?

oh man oh man, how much fun was that? a ton! i took apart some old electronic item and spent a while duplicating what i was going to do on the f450. built up my confidence and went and did it for real in less than a minute. what a weird thrill! plus, i think my joint looks a lot healthier...

Can I get a little soldering advice?

i'll be able to get some flux tomorrow. meanwhile, do i tin the loose wire before pressing it into the blob or do i press the naked wire into the blob? and speaking of the blob that exists there right now: do you think i should try to work with it or try to remove it totally and start fresh...

Can I get a little soldering advice?

thanks, pete. i don't know if you can see it, but it's a two wire connection. in the pic, you'll see one wire still attached and one wire, to the left, that's loose. so do i solder one on and then do the other on top of it?

Can I get a little soldering advice?

A wire from an esc on my (pre-built, bought used) f450 came loose today and, having never soldered a damn thing in my life, i'm unsure how to proceed. I guess I'll have to take the top plate off to give myself working room. But ... that little existing blob of solder: can i just resolder using...

Who are the big players in quads besides DJI?

Thanks, all. I checked out Zero UAV and Hoverfly and neither seem to operate in the **hobby-grade** arena. Heck, even prices for their products are hard to come by at their sites, so they must cost a pretty penny. So I guess that leaves DJI as the sole contender, with the largest range of...

Who are the big players in quads besides DJI?

I'm just curious if DJI has any serious competition in the world of hobby-grade quads. I'm *not* talking quality of the product but size of the operation and depth of the offerings. Is there anyone else even in the running? I guess you could make a case for hobbyking but it's so highly...

Want to make sure I don't ruin my batteries...

My buddy just bought a f450 rtf w/ devo 10 from rc-drones and basically had the same customer-service experience as you. curt few-words answers to questions, no info from tony about how he sets things up and no evident willingness to explain or help. my pal definitely feels like he should have...

Quad crashes, props o' death keep on spinnin'!

So, my buddy's f450 takes off from a picnic table and 5 minutes later he decides to see if his failsafe works. Can you guess what happened? Yup, the quad landed on the side of the table, fell over, broke one prop and landed upside down. Well, my buddy picked the thing up by the prop-less arm...

Did I just kill one of my F450's motors?

yes, but i've swapped motors around and same esc is fine w/ other motors, while the flakely motor is still flakey with other escs.

Did I just kill one of my F450's motors?

just spun it by hand and ... yes, something is binding inside the motor. the others are more or less loose, the flakey one is more or less tight. i'll fiddle with the connectors anyway. but i don't think that its. thanks, everyone, for your help, once again.

Did I just kill one of my F450's motors?

well, i actually think it might be the motor. i switched the CC motors and the flakely one in the new position was as flakey as it's ever been, while the good one in its new position was as good as ever. seems like a motor thing, right?

Did I just kill one of my F450's motors?

good idea. i'll try that next. hopefully it's just an issue of that one motor with that one series of connections, as far fetched as that kind of sounds.

Did I just kill one of my F450's motors?

okay, here are my results. I changed the flakey counterclockwise motor with the clockwise motor next to it ... and both seemed to run fine in their new homes (albiet in the wrong direction for life off). but when i returned the motors to their original spots, the flakey one returned to being...

Anyone sell pre-reamed APC or Gemfan props?

i might have too! but given a new problem that's cropped up (see other thread), i guess i don't need to be in a hurry.

Anyone sell pre-reamed APC or Gemfan props?

I don't have the time nor the inclination nor the skill nor the steady hands to ream props for my F450. Does anyone sell em pre-reamed? I'm looking for the carbon-fiber reinforced Gemfan 9 x 4.7 and/or the APC 10 x 4.7. I've got the stock DJIs on there now, and let me tell you, I am nervous!

declination and a GPS head glued to post :-(

How important is getting the declination right? my naza gps should be set 14 degrees to the left, but the fellow i bought it from (used) glued the freaking head to the carbon shaft so I can't turn it, and degrees are so small that i can't really turn the whole setup the appropriate amount with...
