New and looking for my first drone

Keiren, hello and greetings! Welcome to our merry band of maniacs! The Yuneec is a great drone, as far as the drone itself goes. It flies well, good stability, good flight control system. Where it falls short is the optical quality of the built-in camera, and perhaps the software, if you don't...

New and looking for my first drone

The batteries may be okay, but the charger definitely is not. What I mean by that is, your drone's lifeline is the battery. LiPo's aren't like lithium batteries, they have a very high discharge rate compared to the rest of the designs, and that's why we use them in aircraft - very high power to...

New and looking for my first drone

Hi and welcome! Chris here. Hmm. Start with the Syma x5c, it's great, I've recommended it, or the U818A, which is bigger but also rock steady, or the Hubsan X4 (I started on this one, still have it) or the Nano QX. Then fly the heck out of it. Buy at least 6 batteries and this charger...

E-Tech SimonK ESC to Naza v2 - settings?

Thanks, m8! Thought so. But more, I just couldn't stand the cacophony of different beep sequences all going off at once - kinda hard to tell if they were all in sync or not :) Yes, this time I was smarter and bought extras of everything, just in case. I've found that even ordering the same set...

E-Tech SimonK ESC to Naza v2 - settings?

Renov8r, a quick question for you. I have gone through many different SimonK ESCs in the past, and what distinguishes the generations apart, for me, is their beep sequences - i.e. some are the original do-re-mi beeps, in a certain tone, some lower or higher, others louder or quieter. The newer...

E-Tech SimonK ESC to Naza v2 - settings?

Yes, throttle positions OK and stick calibration done. Mounting screws - will check again, but I'm fairly certain they're okay - this a set of replacement motors, so I re-used the original ones, but I'll put in a set of washers to stand them off some, just in case. Thanks, and I'll keep you posted!

E-Tech SimonK ESC to Naza v2 - settings?

Thanks for your advice! Tried that. Is it normal for an EMax motor to emit smoke for the first second or so of startup? I had a whiff of it and immediately shut it down, but there was no overheating, nor was there any of the typical electrical short smell. ESC seems okay, no overheating. Perhaps...

E-Tech SimonK ESC to Naza v2 - settings?

Greetings! Need a little help here with what seems to be two totally different standards of programming - one set for the Naza v2 FC's Motor/ESC setting requirements, and another for the E-Max 20A ESCs and E-Max MT2216 810kV I'm trying to mate with it. According to the Naza V2 installation...

    Geeky Grandma

Captain, greetings! Have you tried your cell phone recently? There are plenty of apps available that will tell you if you're in restricted airspace and also which authorities to call for approval or waiver in that event. Airmap is the one I use, they're pretty reliable, and are in step with the...

    Need Help! DJI F550 FPV

+1 for what Renov8r said. I'm running a similar setup in a modified Helipal Storm 6 drone, also around 55o class but a hex, with an h4-3d for my GP H4Black, "live view" out via the h4's USB output into my mini OSD unit (Naza v2 FC) to add telemetry and then out to a dedicated fpv transmitter...

Need Help! DJI E310 tuned propulsion and Naza m lite problem

BTW the ESC controls the motor NOT with analog power (detectable with a multimeter in volts), but with PWM digital signals that pulse from 1000ms (throttle down) to 2000ms (throttle up) approximately. So you'd need an oscilloscope to measure if the ESC is working properly (not an AVO meter)...

Need Help! DJI E310 tuned propulsion and Naza m lite problem

You have to calibrate the throttle settings of each ESC BEFORE you connect it to the Flight Controller. Different ESC designs and firmware call for different measures, but basically each batch of ESCs made is slightly different from every other batch, and quite often a bunch of ESCs in the same...

Best beginner drone for around $600

Randy, hello! You're most welcome! I'd say learn on an Alias or similar, then add the faster motors when you get bored with it (which would be sometime in the future!) and then add an FPV camera onto that, or switch up to something like a Rodeo 150 with a built-in camera. That's a beast to fly...

Best beginner drone for around $600

Randy, hello! Greetings and Happy New Year! (Or, if you prefer, Hippo Newt's Ear!) Okay, let me see if I can give you a decent thing or two to think about. A little about me - I've been an R/C (radio control) builder and flyer since around 1980, both in UK and in Hong Kong. Moved to the USA...
