SOLO, New RTF Quad from 3D Robotics

That BrainFarm video was awesome. Beautiful rig there. I also agree with your "SWAG" Bart (Scientific Wild Ass Guess) as far as charging Smart Batteries go.

SOLO, New RTF Quad from 3D Robotics

And we were worried about the skies filling up with irresponsible Phantom users? This will take it to a whole new level and I'm a 3DR fan btw but I see bad things coming from our government.....

I kept expecting: "Solo, so easy a monkey can fly it!"

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

Hmmm good question, I've read this from people who have already done it but I forgot about those short shafts.. Here's the link to what I saw. https://www.cloud-surfer.net/2014/10/10/improving-lift-on-iris-with-other-propellers/#comment-447 Just tried the HQ and APC props I have on hand, I...

We tried out the new Ominus FPV! Here is our review...

I'll see if I can get my brothers video from his "epic crash into a tree" His Ominus FPV didn't fare as well as yours. He said he could buy a std Ominus for what it's costing to fix his. In fairness though it wasn't the crash into the tree that did the damage it was the fall from the tree...

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

So working out of town all last week (as usual) and the weather's gone to crap again (Michigan, go figure) so no flying, but... I've been looking around the net for info on using different props on the Iris+, std props are 9.5x4.5. What I've found is some talk about using APC SF 10x4.7 or HQ...

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

Thanks for all the advice. My plan is to have Alt-Hold when 3 way is all the way up, then Loiter in middle position and Stabilize when the 3 way is all the way down. Then I'll most likely put Loiter again on channel 8 and Simple Mode too. That's for when I feel I've screwed up and need to just...

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

You hit the nail right on the head regarding "Simple and Super Simple" and when I crashed at the end I was flying behind the line where home was, at which point I was in "Simply Confusing Mode" :D I did play with "Simple mode" a bit in the video. You saw where after looking on top of the...

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

Flew today, and crashed, a small crash (is any crash small?). Windy again, 15 - 20 they say, we waited for it to calm down and for part of the flights the winds were fine, unfortunately those weren't recorded. I turned the GoPro on so I had video to the monitor but I forgot to record. Oh well...

Good point about about vertical obstacles, maybe I'll go 50m. JoeBob, I have all the modes you listed available on my setup except "Stabilize" and now "Auto" because I don't want auto yet. So that gives me 5 options, I think I'll be ok with what I have until I get comfortable with this.

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

Geo Fence is enabled but it's still set to defaults, 100m vertical and 300m horizontal. Going to lower both until my confidence level is higher. I'm thinking 30m vertical and 100m horizontal to start. The TX is setup so one switch initiates "land", a 3 position switch gives: std (alt-hold)...

Thanks for the info, I had seen the "autotune" video before but forgot about it and just saw it again after digging through the Wiki some and wanted to ask if you suggest I do it and I see the answer is yes. I will perform autotune when (if?) we get a calm day. 3dr is catching up on the score...

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

Ok, success, limited but still success. I finally got it in the air. In Alt Hold it was a hand full, in Loiter it flew relatively well, a little "toilet bowl" action it seems like. It was a bit windy for a first flight also, ~15 mph but it only drifted a couple feet and returned. I know the...

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

This info wasn't given to me but to another Iris plus owner. It was on the APM forum and it came from 3dr 3days ago. While it seems like a lot it's really easy (if it works of course) took maybe 15 minutes. And yrs you can do it from your desktop PC. There's software to do all this from a Mac...

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

Nothing much today. However I'm now 99% sure the initial failure to arm is because I'm an idiot. After way more reading I've discovered that the Pixhawk has a very intensive list of things it looks at before allowing the motors to arm. I believe my issue was "Gyro cal failed" which according...

3DR Iris+... My experience so far

Ok I'll check. Latest attempt. Reloaded Iris+ parameters, I think I loaded Old Iris parameters last time, (sure of it) Redid all calibrations after params. Did ESC cal per 3dR instructions. Attempted to fly, this time I was able to throttle up to 50% with no signs of flipping. Increased...
