    Another one bites the dust...

That video and best practice should not be used in the same sentence. Just because you can do something, doesn't make it the smart thing to do. You are trying to put lipstick on a pig here and call it a beauty queen.

    Another one bites the dust...

After an aircraft has logged thousands of flight hours, the various components self-prioritize themselves in regards to useful service life. This info can be used to develop a r/r schedule. On our large rigs that carry the Red Epic, cyclic servos are replaced every 100 flight hours (tail rotor...

Flying safety. oath to not fly over people!

Bravo, good for you! Over the last 10 years we have probably turned down $50k in work flying over crowds. Zero regrets.

    Another one bites the dust...

This was a near miss - plain and simple. Don't congratulate someone for putting an entire industries future at risk because of poor judgement. This was the wrong tool for the job. This was not risk mitigation, it was taking risk that wasn't necessary. When you fly near crowds you increase the...

    Another one bites the dust...

My definition of extensive flight testing is thousands of flights over several years with the exact payload flown. How long have octos been flying big cameras? Not that long.

    Another one bites the dust...

The rigs we fly for cinema work have proven to be very reliable with thousands of flights and only a couple of forced landings over a period of many years. It has taken many years to learn and improve on the many weak areas found along the way. Many of these weaknesses were caught just in the...

    Another one bites the dust...

Not true. We turned down flying at two college football games last year for safety concerns. If pro means making over 6 figures then we would qualify. I very clearly know what is really at risk here for our future.

    Another one bites the dust...

Flying close to large crowds is the worst possible application of this equipment. There are so many other uses that are perfect. I don't understand why people still don't get this. I have no sympathy for the loss of this rig due to the poor judgement exercised to take the gig in the first place.

    Nab 2013****

It depends on what you plan to do with it. I have a different viewpoint. I am pretty sure I will have this thing paid for in a couple of months. They have sold over 100 of the hand held versions so far. Not too shabby.

    Hoverfly Meeting with FAA

There was an incident with a partner company a couple of years ago and, after a brief investigation, the insurer paid the claim. There was never a discussion about legal/lawful issues. As for reasons why the FAA might stall small commercial UAV's: Privacy concerns Partisan politics Ties to big...

    Hoverfly Meeting with FAA

The article gives the impression of FAA endorsement (ostensibly) when, upon closer review, a regional manager may have actually mearly said "knock yourself out". Please understand that I am in no way commenting in a negative manner on the need or virtue of what you are trying to do. It is just...

DJI Zenmuse has no value anymore.

What really has no value now is the horribly overpriced Cineron gimbal at $75K. Perhaps Colin will be a little less arrogant now.

Octocopter at the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2013

This has bad idea written all over it. Bragging about flying close to someones face is even worse. Less experienced flyers will see this and think it's reasonable to do. A DIT at our local camera rental house was on a shoot recently when an octo crashed a couple of feet beside a golf pro. He was...

Thanks. Sadly you are correct. Looks like I am going to have to get creative!

    Radian stabilizers

For a gimbal that has the roll axis inside the tilt axis, is there a solution to having the radian lose orientation at full tilt down? What is different with the Roll2 settings in the software?

The MIB are looking for the operator. Hopefully someone rats him out and they make an example of him.

Hitler's New Quadcopter Gets Lost In The Post......

It would have been humorous, had I not seen this clip used a hundred times already for every camera and vacuum cleaner over the last year. Originality must be in short supply these days.
