To be clear, what I'm saying is that there is no need for a special chip to enable V2V communications. Any existing telemetry radio modem could be used. That chip is simply a specialized WiFi transceiver fit for automotive applications, which would be better than using generic WiFi chips for widespread use in cars.
And when I say we could do this, I'm talking specifically about 2 vehicles, being made to not hit eachother. That could be hacked into the code pretty quickly. However, if what you are wanting is multi-point, swarming type behaviour of many drones, now that is altogether different.
