So here it is, our first ever Roswell Fright Test Crew Spooktacular Halloween Special:

We'll leave it up to you to decide whether this is a “trick” or a “treat.” Whatever it is, we put it together in a hurry to make sure that it was ready in time for Halloween. The subject of this particular outing – the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta – was held just 11 days ago, on Saturday, October 20.
Regular viewers will find the setting familiar from our visit to the Tualatin Crawfish Festival RC Boat Regatta over the summer. The organizers of these festivities became aware of us from that earlier event, and they asked us to come out and join in the fun. We were already planning on doing something special for Halloween, so it didn't take us long to say “Yes!” when we got the invitation.
This video has a lot of moving parts, and we simply couldn't have gotten it done in time without some help. Our friends over at MediaFX Video Production put together the spine-tingling “trick or treat” teaser that starts off the video, and noted local pirate and voice-over actor Bob Ramstead performed the narration for us. Thanks, Bob!
Getting it done by Halloween also entailed pushing back completion of several other projects we're working on – in particular, a video demonstrating Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS) deployment during a controlled burn to clear invasive species out of Baltimore Woods in Portland.
One final note – aimed at the three-quarters of our YouTube audience who lives outside of the United States – for whom Halloween might not necessarily be a familiar concept: “Halloween” is an unofficial holiday that occurs on October 31 each year. Perhaps its most ubiquitous symbol is the Jack o' Lantern: a pumpkin carved to resemble a stylized face, traditionally lit from within by a candle.
Halloween is a playful celebration of the spooky and the macabre built on folklore about ghosts, witches, monsters and other things that go bump in the night. It's most notable tradition is for young children dressed in costumes to go door-to-door, soliciting candy from their neighbors with the phrase, “Trick or treat!” – meaning, give us a treat or we'll play a trick on you.
That's probably sufficient to understand the portions of our video that don't revolve around giant gourds and the dubious local custom of re-purposing as watercraft. Enjoy!
