Hey guys, I've a bit ofan issue when flying my TBS discorvery, on desent it rocks back andforth when I pull the throtle back to loose height quickly. I've nottouched the stock gains on the Naza V2 GPS so I was wondering whatgains you guys are/would run on a

  • 920Kv motors
  • 10” x 3.8 prop
  • Naza V2 GPS
  • 3s1p 5000mah lipo
Any help oradvice would be great.

try this

manual 140 130 140 120
atti 95 95

if it's still doing it your props or motors or bearings or something mechanical at the prop end isnt working right. crashing does that, sometimes out of the box theres a problem. descending is the most unstable point in most multi rotors flight. it is best done with forward momentum and slowly. chopping the throttle will make it unstable

I did have a bit of a terraferma discovery moment lol but it was the same before so I think its down to my set-up, I fly mostly in GPS mode, could this be a problem???

it will when the gains are wrong or a motor is giving up. Feel for heat after a flight, usually a problem motor shows heat over the rest

Was really pleased after the first few flights because the speed controllers and the out-runners were both cool, tis just down to gain's on the FC, need a calm day and a shed load of time to play with the gains. Was just after peoples gains so I could punch in a start point. Cheers for those kloner, will have a play this weekend.

Just a thought. I know if you descend to quickly you end up in your own prop wash. This is very unstable air and will cause the craft to rock and sometimes crash. As said before, it is better to land at an angle or no quicker than the rate of the Auto-pilot.

Cheers Pete for the link, great read. All gains are stock from the factory and she flys well but I just need a good weekend when the misses goes to her mom's so I can dial it in. On the TBS site it said you can use 3s or 4s and I've no problems with power or flight times, motors run cool as well.

Flew a couple of packs with the new V4.00 firmware, quite happy with the result. Had spent a bit of time re-balancing some RC Timer 10x5 props and got this result with the GoPro hard mounted in the case.

What flight times and what packs?

Pete

Hey Pete, nice bit of fly there mate, like the flying between the goal posts, weather here has been total pants in the UK and I've been grounded for the last week because of high winds, ho-hum... Flight packs are Turnigy 3s 5000mAh, I get about 12 mins of FPV flying with 25% still in hand, which suits me fine. As said in my original post all gains are at factory which is 100% at the mo. A couple of pic's of my Disco and my own antenna including my new "Black Rod" antenna that I've been working on (making gig-a-wave antenna is my day job) View attachment 13626View attachment 13627

Mr take no prisoners!
Thanks, was a nice afternoon. We have just had two months of wet and windy weather, been mostly good now for the last few weeks.

In previous life I did my training as a "Radio Mechanic" then as an Electronics Technician but these days they think I am a Network Engineer but I have always enjoyed tinkering with small electronics/electrical gear and would love more details of your antennae!

The settings you are using look a bit low to me, if you use "default" from the software you will not get "factory" recommended settings. The manual has recommended "factory" settings. Not sure how you get a 890 gram quad though, my Disco is 1616 grams and it flies quite nicely with similar to the settings below.

Recommended Parameters
Recommended Settings for using F330/F450/F550
Configuration Information Basic Gain Attitude Gain
Motor ESC Propeller Battery Weight Pitch Roll Yaw Vertical Pitch Roll
F330 DJI-2212 DJI-18A DJI-8 Inch 3S-2200 790 g 140 140 100 110 140 140
F450 DJI-2212 DJI-30A DJI-8 Inch 3S-2200 890 g 150 150 100 105 150 150
F550 DJI-2212 DJI-30A DJI-8 Inch 4S-3300 1530 g 170 170 150 140 170 170

Cheers

Cheers mate for the settings, will bang them in tomorrow and see how she feels, totally missed those setting and the manual lol. Think the weight is just the airframe without a battery, could be wrong though??? The Antenna are similar to the 5.8GHz skew-planar antenna but with a few mods and made out of silver rather than copper, not made a massive change but its still all going in the right direction, it's still work in progress but those are the best matched pair I've made yet. The helical is coming on nice as well ;-)
