Sony NEX camera on DJI F550

I'm hope to fly a Sony NEX * and one of their lighter lenses under my DJI F550.

I'm not concerned about a gimbal at this point. I lightweight rigid mount is doable for me. I'm only after still photos, not video.

Is anyone out there using this combination without having added a heavy lift kit?

If so, and tips photos or advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jim,

Sorry I don't have a DJI F550 but I do have a hexacopter that I have used to fly an NEX5n.

I think the issue whether you can lift the NEX5n depends on how large of props you can use on the F550. The smallest props I've used on 2814 770KV motors was 12" and that hovered at about 6o%. If 12" props fit on the F550 then it should work.

Are you using 3S or 4S batteries?

View attachment 16431I have big heavy 6600 4s batts. May need to get a smaller lighter battery at the expense of flight time. I'll look into the max prop size. Thanks for the tips. That's my over water flotation set-up.

Here's my Hex with 10" Groupners it flies the NEX5n fairly easily on its own, with a gimbal it fly's but feels sluggish and there's not enough reserve power. The quad is more powerful and efficient with larger props. Currently it has 14" props with 4S 6000mAh battery I get about 9 minutes of flight time without camera and gimbal. I also have a Y6 but I cannibalized the motors for the Quad, I'm going to get 330KV motors and convert to 6S with 15-16" props on the quad.
