Hoverfly Setting up Autolevel, Hoverfly Pro

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
Seting up the Autolevel feature in the Hoverfly Pro was discussed in another thread before I came across this tutorial. Now that I've found it I'm going to give it a try to see how much better my XY8 will fly with Autolevel engaged. It was better today after following directions I got from Ken but this procedure is more complete so I thought I'd bring to the group's attention.

Oh man Bart, sorry didn't ask you about going through the calibration procedures. They really do make a difference. Did forgoing the trimming of throttle to idle motors help?

Shawn,
I think the two roll-overs I experienced on landing were due to the motors spinning while I went to full left rudder to try to disarm the motors. I think it induced a yaw of the helicopter and (with my already narrow modified landing gear) it tipped over. I should mention that when it tipped over the motors that weren't beating their propellers against the ground were not happy and were spinning above idle so, the moral of the story is, keep to the manufacturer's directions!!! :)
I'm still working through the kinks but it's not bad at all. I'm almost willing to say the camera control is better than MK but I'm in need of more tuning so I'll hold off for now.

FWIW, I was under the impression that the accelerometer calibration was helpful if you had the GPS module installed but not necessary if flying without it.

That would be my lesson for the day.

Bart, after just on a 11 months of owning HFP boards one thing I have found that is a big help now is to read the Hoverfly instructions a couple of times and follow things as they describe. Whenever I skim the instructions and or simply just go for it I end up having some issue. However every time I follow the instructions and read the instructions thoroughly I find I dont have any problems. Whenever there is a new firmware release or new feature upgrade read every thing you can from Hoverfly a couple of times, it all gets easier that way.

BTW have a peek at this.

ELEV-8
Flipping

I have been trying to get my Parallax ELEV-8 to operate as advertised for a few weeks now (HF Pro/GPS). I have checked and rechecked all of the connections, etc. (just found that my GPS was plugged into the wrong port - that explains that!), but I can't get the "advanced features of the Pro board to work. I have tried many different primary gain settings and finally have found one that I'm comfortable with for just flying unassisted (28). But every time I flip the gear switch to turn on AutoLevel, the quad does a perfect flip to the left. After breaking a few props I've pretty much gotten it down pat as far as trying it at low altitude and getting out of the throttle in time so it isn't doing any damage - except to my ego.
I have done all of the various configurations, loaded the latest firmware version, etc. and still no luck.
I am going to try the above sequence when I get home from work today and see if that does it. One question though, do I NOT re-calibrate the gyro temps? The instructions only mention DISABLING it, not re-calibrating.
Thanks,
Don
