Sandy's aftermath

I hope everyone in Sandy's path stays safe. I also hope you have your quad batteries all charged up so that when the storm is over, you can go out and get some video of all the damage.
This may sound morbid but it's not. I've lived in tornado alley all my life and it is quiet normal to go out and see the incredible destruction that mother nature can do. And yes, please try to sell your video to TV stations and networks, it'll be much better than anything they can come up with.

Don't forget that insurance adjusters need video too. May as well try to make a little money to help pay for your habit.

Sorry to hear about the damage guys. I was thinking about this today as well, it could be a big PR opportunity for us droners to shed some positive light on what we do and get rid of some of the negative connotation associated with the word "drone". Get some stories to hit about how "drones" are helping with the cleanup efforts of the storm.

Imagine a group getting together and traveling taking pics for every home owner affected and business that needs a look...

I wish I could ditch my day job and hit the road with about 100 charged up lipos! Maybe someday...
I was all prepped in case we got hit hard here in Pittsburgh, but we didn't see much of anything other than steady rain and some semi-heavy wind.

This would all be very positive. Video for homeowners, insurance, search and rescue, tons of boats have been lost, land erosion. These agencies can't have helicopters in the air all the time and they can't get into places our quads can. You could check the damage done to water towers, follow train tracks for damage. Really, it's endless.

Our future is so bright for what we do, I pray nobody turns the lights off...it's something I look forward to every day!

I think most people know if they're a good pilot or not. If you're not or have any doubts in your skill, you know what to do or NOT do.
I'm watching the news right now and they just said that the only way to survey the damage was by kayak. East coast guys, here's your chance.

It could be a interresting discusion to have with the local authorities to create a small group to gain access to these areas ?

I guess they limit access for both safety and stealing issues maybe, some people unfortunatly like to take advantage of such bad situations :(

Dang, if i could be in the USA right now for sure i would be happy to help :(

Best regards,

Fabien

Probably a good way to get started is to talk to authorities before a disaster happens. You could talk to the person in charge, show some videos and then give them a demonstration. I think that once they see what these quads are capable of, they'd be interested. Kind of like storm chasers that have their cars loaded with all the latest equipment to take measurements.

You can sign up with FEMA on their website offering your services. I've been on there site for about 4 years. When they need special services like the ones we offer they will call.
