Rookie need some advise

Hi all,

I want to design and program a drone that will have some sensor onboard and will be able to fly in 3 different modes: completely autonomous(with predefined path) / change course due to calculation made on the sensor recived data (maid onboard) / get instructions from ground

I am trying to gather some information on the HW i need and what parts i need but find it very diffcult to understand.
Can i use a companion computer onboard the drone to get all info from the sensor do the data analsys and send instruction directly to the flight controller, or do i miss somthing in the middle?
also will the companion computer be able to deal with all the tasks at hand? i might want to send the data online to a cloud server as well.
