Radio - Too much for newb?

I am learning about Multis for work and as a total newb to R/C I wanted to ask about radios.

I know that I will be using this for more than one multi, both a progression in capabilities with eventually custom functions, and multiple multis as time goes on.

  • Does it then make more sense to buy a good radio that has more capacity in channels than I need now so I can use it on multiple brands like the DJI system and the open source 3DR products?

Spending many dollars on a good radio is not a problem if it allows for flexibility and some futureproofing.

I am looking at these (when available):

Spektrum DX18

FrSky Taranis X9E (16 channel)
FrSky Taranis 9D Plus (16 channel)

Futaba 14SG
Futaba 18MZ (this one looks really nice) 18channels + expandable with 8 more

I welcome any advise to help me narrow this choice down.

Mr take no prisoners!
Hi Gary,

I have both a DX18 and a 14SG and have had a Taranis but for MR's the choice really is the 14SG by quite a long way as far as I am concerned,

Cheers

Pete
