Quad vs Hex for a noob

So which is easier to fly: a quad or a hex?

Hi Racer,
It depends on a lot of factors. One is the Flight controller. One like the NAZA any one can fly in Atti or GPS mode. Put a KK FC in there instead then let the fun begin.
I have a quad with the NAZA and have just converted a Tri to a Quad with a KK and it is a whole different story.

If you are just learning then go with the Quad. The lessons are pretty much the same, they will be as easy to fly depending on which flight controller you use but crucially in the beginning, the Quad will be easier to build/repair and cheaper. The one advantage the Hex has over the quad is the potential to fly with one motor dead but this is normally a vary rare occurrence so I would go with the less complex system.

If you don't yet know how to fly a multirotor you may wish to train on something like a Blade MQX. I did and it was invaluable.

Both are equally easy to fly but the Hex costs more due to the two additional motors and escs and may take a bit longer to configure and bench test. Also should you need to rebalance the props/motors then 4 is faster than balancing 6.
If you are looking for easier flight configuration the "I" config where the MR has one motor arm at the front will be easier to fly compared to the "X" as indicated in the Blade MQX manual.
