Proper way to wire LED strips ...

I've got some LED light strips that require 6-12 volts. My S800 uses 6S for power so I'll need to step down the voltage for the LEDs. I found a BEC at my local hobby shop that will take 6S voltage and outputs 5 to 6 volts. Would that be the best way to go or is there a simpler (and cheaper than $16) to step down the voltage?

You can run the led's in series and drop the voltage in half, but amperage will be the same.

Personally, a bec is what I would do.

If your feeling a little adventurous you could make a simple voltage regulator using an LM317 a few resistors and capacitors.
It's not difficult and will allow you to set whatever voltage you choose.
