POSTING VIDEO: The 2012 Tualatin Crawfish Festival RC Boat Regatta

To begin with, a disclaimer: there isn't a whole lot of actual flying in this video. Although RQCX-3 “Raven” got into the air a half dozen times while we were filming it, our primary focus was the action on the surface of the water – and beneath it – during our visit to the Tualatin Crawfish Festival RC Boat Regatta.

In spite of that fact, we hope that you will watch and enjoy:

This video is the first in a series of experiments we will be conducting over the next couple of months. As you saw for yourself, in all of our upcoming projects I will be wearing a hat in the shape of a crustacean.

Okay – that last part isn't actually true (except in this video). What we're really going to do is talk to some of the people who we're meeting up with during our adventures, and sharing what they have to say with you. Let us know what you think.

This video got its start when we were contacted by Aimee Eng – who you saw in the video. She wanted to know if we could come out and participate in the regatta. She was familiar with some of our other videos, and she figured if we put something together about this event, it might help build interest in future years.

Always glad to help out our fellow hobbyists, we agreed. By the way, Aimee's incredibly cool personal niche within the RC boating world is combat warships. They don't just look look like warships, they actually throw metal slugs at each other using compressed gas. How freakin' cool is that!?

Unfortunately, they are on hiatus right now because of the economy, otherwise you know we'd be bringing you that video – but you can learn more by visiting the home page of The Queen's Own Scale Model Warship Club.

As you could see for yourself in the video, there were a lot of people doing really interesting things at the regatta – from the painstaking detail on some of the models, to the unique function and capabilities we saw on display: like the computer-controlled battleship and the working submarine.
