I am having a bit of a dumb moment!!!

How do I activate the position hold on the new Phantom?. I trust once this is activated the quad will try and stay in that exact position, even if I try and physically move it???

Cracking bit of kit

Regards

Thanks for reply. But can you explain the difference in GPS Atti, and the other two Atti positions??

Thanks

P.s.

I have flown it, and have tested the fail safe, which works :).. Just wanted to know what all the different flight modes are... As I am new to the Quadcopter world..

I have a 550 and a 450 both with Naza GPS.

And for those there are 3 modes:
1 manual -- completly manual, takes a lot of input from you to stay in one place.
2 Atti -- This will hold altitude and attitude if you if you are not giving any inputs and throttle is sat 50%, but not position so the copter will drift with the wind it uses a barometer and inertia sensors for altitude and attitude (level tilt and roll)
3 GPS -- This will leave the copter in the exact position if you if you are not giving any inputs and throttle is sat 50%, but you can still use the sticks to fly, it only holds when sticks are neutral.

You can also program the Naza on these to make a switch on your transmitter turn on FS mode, return home or simply land where copter is. This also happens when you turn the transmitter off if you set it up that way or if you loose contact with the copter for any reason.

I am not sure if the Phantom is the same.

The Phantom Manual states GPS/Atti/Atti. As Olof said, unless it is a printing mistake, we normally see on the 3 position, GPS/Atti/Man.

Difference between GPS and Atti is.... GPS mode is just that, it is more of a GPS lock and Atti mix, while in that mode, the aircraft should maintain a relatively good altitude (Atti) and a good position hold (GPS). Whilst just in Atti would hold a certain Altitude. Atti is activated while the switch is in the middle and your throttle is at around 50% give or take +/-5% I think.

I read in the manual, the compass is mounted to the landing gear, I take it you have that part? Calibrated and all?

The Phantom has no Manual Mode, just ATTI and GPS/ATTI. I would not be turning off the Tx to test Failsafe/RTH. It is not a good practice.

The phantom has manual mode... You just need to activate it in the naza software. Also mine came with the home lock/ course lock disabled as well. The imu also required calibration out of the box...

Right 3 position switch flicked up, Should be in GPS Atti mode, middle should be Atti and down should also be Atti according to the DJI Manual. For this to work, you have to calibrate the GPS and probably set the Mag North Offset. You will also need to have a good lock on the GPS's.

See here for User Manual.

I just got the phantom and set the software to "checked" for HL [ home lock]....but it still does not respond to the commands....any help is appreciated.

the phantom must be at least 40 ft away from your takeoff position before home lock/courselock will become active. otherwise it will just stay in off mode. Have you tried that?
