Phantom 2 Fly Away

After owning my Phantom 2 for eight weeks it took off one evening like it was possessed. Miraculously it was returned to me after four months when someone finally read the reward notice I stuck on the bottom.
I had calibrated the compass prior to flight, but the failsafe did not engage. Before this I had experienced no problems at all and thought I understood the flight systems.
Does anyone have any advice on how to prevent this from happening again, other than not flying it.

Sometimes if you rush into the air and do not allow the FC to completely cycle through it’s internal calibration “set up” it’s gone. And the more you fly the better the chance of this happening becomes because you become confident and forget to wait for all the lights to finalize.
Not saying that is what it was, but it happens more than most people think!
