It looks like I'm getting into this new hobby. I started out a month ago looking for a little indoor flyer to chase the cats around the house with. Last trip into the LHS, I started talking about getting a bigger quad. I'm starting my research now, but getting ready to pull the trigger and build a 450 kit. One of my concerns is that I live very close to a small private airport. Not sure what the "no fly" zone is around the facility. They do have a RC flying field on the back side of the airport property.. I know laws are changing, but if I can't fly in my yard it would probably stop me from getting into the hobby.. Here is a link to the airport info on AirNav.. http://www.airnav.com/airport/N51

It's more than likely a 5 mile radius from the airport. Here is a drone no fly zone map https://www.mapbox.com/drone/no-fly/
I'm not sure it is all inclusive. When I use my EZ GUI app I get a no fly zone around every airport and heliport near me. Fortunately for me they are all more than five miles from where I fly.

Welcome to MultiRotorForums.com!!
where are you located Fred? i'm down the road in Pittstown, 08867

Solberg isn't exactly a private airport and they require notification if you're flying within five miles. Shoot me a private message (called a Conversation here at MRF, click my username to the left, then "Start a Conversation", we'll have to meet up and do some flying. Round Valley School is a great location on Sunday mornings.

fengshuidrone - thanks for the link.. According to that site, I'm in the clear.. I hope that is true. It would be a shame to have enough property to fly and not be able to..

Bartman-- you've got a msg..

Thanks. I talked with my LHS and he said this airport isn't in restricted space. It doesn't have a control tower. Need to stay under 400' and in sight... And don't be stupid.

I found a more comprehensive no fly map. Go there and create an account. I'm not real sure what it all means on this map but it really lights up with no fly zones when you push the relevant buttons. https://app.airmap.io/

If you want to something really freaky, enable all the zones including schools, power plants and private properties. Then zoom out on the map. Not much sky to fly:eek:o_O:(

Wow, I had no idea that there were so many private property owners who have no fly zones on their property. Saves them from an invasion of privacy? NOT! I don't think they can make it a no satellite zone. I think some of them were protecting their skinny dipping hot tub out behind the house.
