My name is Dan, I am a CNC machinist/gunsmith, been flying electric fixed wing and helis for a number of years now and just got into multi-rotor. Picked up an Eflight mqx on a whim the other day while visiting a childhood favorite LHS. Even though I would consider this a "toy" class quad - I have been having an absolute ball with it! Even in wind it does well, in calm skies it is just a joy to tool around with.
So I'm collecting components to put together a 650mm quad with about 10lbs of thrust on a 4s 5000mah pack, model weight with pack and gopro is under 4lbs - so plenty of power to add a little bit more equipment or battery if I feel like it. Planning on a simple, manual control FPV platform that will handle a bit more wind.
I am planning on buying a chassis for this first one, then branching out into 100% homebuilds. I have been doing some of the R&D work and testing with Defense Distributed - so I have access to 3D printers - as well as our in-house manual/CNC subtractive machining equipment. Hopefully I'll be able to fab some interesting components in the future...
