Need to know location alternatives to FC.

As I will most likely use the DJI, does anyone with one know how far off center the FC can be placed? Let's say hypothetically the FC was on the same radius as all of the motor centers. At best a few inches in from the motor. Would that be possible? I have made a prototype of a completely new style of multi that I would like to market as I think it will be much cheaper to manufacture and has some perks over "conventional" multi rotor configurations. But I need to know exactly how far off center the FC can be mounted first.
