Naza H recommended.

I hung on for quite a while after seeing the latest 2.0 firmware release. So with a degree of trepidation I gave it a try today. It has the compass checker like the new Naza-M which was great. All in All I have to say well done to DJI as this product is in MHO great value for money and works really well.

The instruction guide could be improved as the way in which tail gyro gain is adjusted is not clear at all or even mentioned. For those interested you need to assign the G channel to a two position switch and by trial and error set a high and a low value in your tx. Mine is set at H= 42% L=38% Quite low values are required!

If you are using Spektrum then heli mode will by default set your gyro on the Flap/Gyro channel which is a three position switch. Be careful here because if you select the mid position in flight you will have an interesting time with 0 gain.

It was quite windy today yet in manual mode it was hovering hands off at all compass points. I was about to try a 5 rotor head system but with this superb level of stability I wont bother. As with naza-M the new algorithm is excellent.

Also FWIW DJI Europe is fully functioning now and you can get your stuff serviced at last.

Couldn't agree more. Especially considering its price point compared to Ace One and Wookong H. The only downside is no return to home for the CAA safety aspect. But then again, this is designed for the hobbyist. That being said, i use it on one of my single rotors, and it does a great job of keeping the heli level and in position (@ £2.5k cheaper than Ace One and £700 cheaper than Wookong H). Certainly shows Helicommand a thing or two, if anyone remembers that....

I can live without RTH, rarely use anything other than manual. I wouldn't want to trust it anyway. Idle up 1 & 2 is all we use. the rest is done by the guy on the sticks. Just for a little practice the auto rotation/safety switch is about all that gets used.

We have one special mode and thats the "you have I have channel" that is on the camera Tx. here we can switch rudder command from the pilot to the cam.Op. when he is in Atti. mode. That keeps his attention going alright!!!

The only thing I remember about Helicommand was the price tag.

Had an eye on the Naza H for a while regularly checking for FW enabling RTH. Also been waiting on the Skookum GPS add on, they have released it but now they have an improved version of Skookum 720 being released, if not already. Bit more expensive than Naza but looks very capable on paper.
Like Coptercraft I'm keen on the RTH for certification purposes, though its my understanding that it is not actually a requirement to have RTH. just a failsafe.

Autorotation is my best failsafe. I had a rudder servo motor burn out because we were a little bit too high on the gyro gain. It was a HKS super fast HV one that was a little too fast and it was not noticed, when it stopped working it started to rotate. Just like full size, we treated that eventuality like a main motor failure and went into autorotate and without any torque from the motor it can weathercock if you can get enough speed. It was a hard landing but very little damage. With a little more height it could have been a perfect landing. (dead mans curve and all that).

Bowley I think the Skookum could be good one day but those guys are getting into new territory with GPS and going beyond just stabilization, it will take time.
