Naza GPS unit replaceable with common USB-GPS?

I'm just curious: Did anyone try to replace the original DJI GPS-unit for the Naza with a non-DJI GPS module? Or does anyone have a clue if it could be possible?
I've got two different GPS modules, used on laptop with usb connection, lying around. Would save some money to spend on batteries and spare rotors if I could recycle my spare modules ;-)
Don't get me wrong, I know we share an expensive hobby and am willing to invest in the original GPS-unit. But if there's a way around, I'd give it a try.

Likely not possible, DJI uses a CANbus connection system and the software is closed so there's no way to know exactly how the GPS talks to the Naza to be able to even try using anything else. Even the Wookong-M GPS isn't compatible with Naza or the Naza with Wookong, pretty obvious they did that intentionally so you have to buy their gear.

There is also different of data extracted and used, base on what gps module doing. though the message format is same on the air interface, the gps is program to extract different parts of the data fields and hand it to the "proprietor process".. then it is either used or combined with other process..

It would be interesting to see what is on the pins.. using a USB to UART device.. there are 4 pins on the GPS, wonder which is which.. might be easy to see the stream of data, but might be a bit to figure out what is what.

If you do get the urge to try, I would be interested in getting a capture file from you.

If anyone has a spare/damage GPS, it might also be interesting to see if the stream be be spoof to CANBUS the for testing the WKM GPS/ATTI by altering the data instead of using a real GPS feed...

wonder if all the data on the canbus is serialized?
