Mission Planner or APMPlanner2

Being new to the 3DR world flight controllers, what is the difference between the older Mission Planner vs the APMPlanner2?

I know that APMPlanner2 can be used with a Mac system, but is that it? Will one or the other be phased out or go unsupported at some point? Which one should people use if they are just getting started using APM controllers? BTW, I will be using the MiniOSD and the older 915Mz 3DR Radio telemetry V1.1 to, in case that makes a difference.

They're pretty much the same but supposedly the Mission Planner will be phased out. I'm personally using the Mission Planner as it has a lot more features like being able to do photogrammetry. I presume from what I've read, all this will eventually be available on APMPlanner. I liked the idea of mac os as I use a Mac Pro to fly, but then found out all the features I wanted were missing lol!

I look this way around - APMPlanner2 is an extended version of Mission Planner, making it user friendly for the beginners and experts.
