Medium size Hexacopter

Hey everyone, I have just received my Flamewheel 550 which seems like a nice kit. One thing I notice straight away is that the arms are (VERY) heavy. Im thinking that in the long run I would like to swap all the electrics out into something a bit lighter, and hopefully folding (for easier travel and longer flight times).

Had a look around the internet but haven't seen to much in the way of MEDIUM size hxacopters (550-750mm) that are a reasonable weight.

Can anyone recommend some places to look? The coptersky ones seem nice but their site is down.

anyone got any links or recommendations?

Thanks!

It depends what you want to spend really. The xAicraft hexa frame is quite nice, or you could go for a Droidworx frame if you have a bit of cash, or as Cinestar if you have a lot of cash. The coptersky website is down, so I can't look at those.

What makes the Flamewheel 550 arms so heavy by the way, I never had one to compare?

Mike - I am specifically looking for a Hex rather than a quad or X8, so I can swap the F550 gear straight out. These look real good http://www.foxtechfpv.com/full-carbon-hexacopter-foldable-frame-p-373.html but are lots of $$ otherwise I am tempted to buy the hex from himodel or quad frame.com. Neither are folding but both are nice and cheaaap.

The F550 arms are REALLY heavy. They seem to be solid nylon in construction.

These look nice too: http://www.shop.aglhobbiesllc.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=88

Hi, how heavy is your frame? I use an all aluminium beedrones frame, 600mm, with motors + esc + props + naza but no landing gear/ camera mounts its 1200gr. Its very sturdy.

I would assemble your F550 and fly it for awhile before you make a decision on going with another frame. I have a F450 and F550 and both fly very well. I use 10" props on the F450 with 3S and 8" props with 4S on the F550. Don't always assume that a few grams of less weight will give you significantly better performance. I have had my WKM on a Coptersky 500 frame and moved it back to the F450. If you are interested I will sell it to you with the GoPro Gimbal.
