Location of Flight Controller question.

I am designing a new type of frame where there is no center of the craft. I am trying to eliminate the need for extra structure just to centralize the FC. Does anyone have first hand experience with the results of placing the FC at the far end of the frame?

Hi, I am very interested on what you are doing. Becaus I also plan to build my own frame, and I think that all the design of the craft might be re-engineered. A totaly different model without a center, seems chalenging. I think that it woukld be a good idea to build concentrating the weit near the motors to decrease vibration. Lipos could be placed to conter balance the camera. gps and antenas should go to a higher level, may be in separate receptacles. Arms don't have to be horizontal. Arms diameter should be variable, Section of the arms should have a vertical aerodinamic shape, like the shape of a water drop. Landing gear should be an independent structure, may be of plastic, pvc, something not rigid. The mais structure should be connected to the landing gear structure through elastic connections. Besides that, comes the search for the elegance of the model.
that's why I should lijke to know more about your thoughts on building an anusual frame.

I believe it depends rather on your FC - some may be more sensitive to the position than others. In each case you should ask the manufacturer/designer.

For the CopterControl, James has stated that a reasonable distance from the CG point will not be a problem at all. The accels (which have the greatest influence on the auto-levelling in CC) are unaffected (for a rigid body rotating, the angular change experienced is the same at any point on it). Gyros will be more affected, so if your controller depends heavily on gyros for stabilisation then you're in trouble, since the distance travelled by the gyro (and therefore its output) increases as you move away from the centre.

Something like that, anyway! Don't take my answer as gospel :)
