The fact that it uses a wifi network for control is nothing new. Of course that's never stopped Apple patents before...

The reporting is a bit shallow. The patents are filed by a Taiwanese company that just happens to be also a supplier to Apple. And the innovation is a 3D vision control system that enforces a predefined 3D flight area - a variation on existing vision control systems. Interesting but, as you say, nothing really new.
