Insurance

I am in the process of transitioning from hobby to professional use of a UAV. The airframes/ cameras are pretty expensive. Has anyone been able to get insurance?

There are several companies who offered different levels of insurance.
Several offer liability only meaning only what your machine hits would be covered and a few offer actual rig insurance where your rig is covered.

Liability insurance can run from $117 - $250 a month, and I have heard "full coverage" can run anywhere from $1500 - $5000 a month.

Aerial Pak - offers liability and Transport Risk offers liability and full coverage.

It seems that many go with $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 Liability Coverage to CYA the company & then add Film Production Insurance (or a rider under the production company insurance) for the EXPENSIVE camera/ lens... RED, LENS & ACCESSORIES.
In many cases the CAMERA/ LENS is the BIG money item at risk....
Most can recover from loosing a $5000 to $10,000 Multicopter, but $150,000 in camera is hard to bounce back from....

And when dealing with these companies to add the Production Insurance, you HAVE to specify that you are flying the cameras. Many normal insurance planes that seem reasonable have a "no fly" clause. So either everyone on SET is on the same page "Fell off the jib" or make sure the insurance you have covers flying.
