Al over at Hoverfly has also put together an excellent set of quadcopter tutorials: http://www.hoverflytech.com/video-tutorials.html. They are based around building a quad with an HFP board but demonstrate the basic build for almost any FC. They are perfect for the noob to take them from start to finish or the later ones will really help those to get their first HF -based copter flying.

I just spoke with Ben at Hoverfly yesterday, and he was very helpful.
This great customer support made it easy for me to make my decision on my next FC, a Hoverfly Pro. I bought one right after I got off the phone with him.

How do I identify which HF Pro board I have

I have one of the first black HoverFly Pro boards. When using the older version of update client (2.366) you either selected Black or Green board. I'm trying to update to the new Firmware 4.0 and the new update client lists the boards as Hoverfly Pro 3 and HoverFly Pro 4. I saw some older paperwork that said the origina green board was HF pro 1 and the Black was HoverFly Pro 2, so I'm totally confused. Which one do I select when upgrading the firmwar?
Thanks.

The firmware update which gives you the option of HFP 3 and HFP 4 refers to the firmware editions. It doesnt matter which board you have they both work with all firmware.

What you need to do is work out if you wish to use the previous v3 firmware editons or the v4.

The new V4 firmware editions now mean that to change configuration you will no longer need to go online to do the change, you can now change it in the setup software in the PRO INFO tab and select your configuration and remember to hit save.

If you wish to stay with the older V3 firmware it means you will still have to go online to change the configuration and flash the firmware and configuration as per the older method.

The new method is a welcome change because now you just need to flash the firmware but after that can do all configuration changes etc without being online connected to the HF server. Just remember in V4 to go to the PRO INFO tab, select the configuration and most importantly hit save.

Have you read the Hoverfly instructions on installing and using the new firmware?. Make sure you uninstall all Hoverfly software you currently have and do a fresh install of the new software, both firmware update and setup software. Also make sure you download the new V3 HFP manual and read through that.

http://www.hoverflytech.com/Documentation.html for the manual.

These are the Hoverfly support pages https://hoverflytech.zendesk.com/

And this is the page with the information about the new V4 software etc etc https://hoverflytech.zendesk.com/entries/21242543-significant-update-release-version-4-0

Make sure you read everything

Thanks Stacky, that was a fast response. I also got one from George Sapp. Where else can you get service like that on a Sunday afternoon.
It worked and the update was successful.

I updated the firmware so I could troubleshoot a problem with my gimbal roll compensation on my PhotoHigher AV200 gimbal. Whenever I use Hoverfly Setup to calibrate the centering it would start to drift to one side or the other from center. Also, after calibrating the gimbal at an angle (approx 30 degrees, as specified by HoverFly, it would seem fine, but when I tilt the bird it would compensate in the wrong direction.

After thinking about it, I think the problem is that the Savox servo on the AV200 has an external potentiometer, which is not hooked up if I hook the servo up like HoverFly recommends. Do I need to replace the Savox with a standard servo that has an internal pot, or is there something else I'm doing wrong. Right now I have the servo connected to the Camera Roll pins on the HF Pro board.

Thanks.

Sorry with respect to the gimbal controls al I have been using so far have been a couple of very simple gimbals and dont have any experience with anything more high end. I wont be much help here with that one at this point. My gimbals just have direct roll and tilt control at this point. The only thing that comes to mind is that the HFP only works with digital servos.
