Home-brew Hexa with Naza

I cannibalized my Naza F450 kit to create a larger, more powerful hexa. In spite of having a bit of finishing touches left (like covering/hiding the electronics), I must say I’m really pleased with the first couple of brief test flights. Still to do is some fine tuning of the flight controls, and in-flight testing of the camera mount & gimbal. And there will likely be some experimentation of batteries and props.

Here’s the particulars if you’re interested:

From the F450, I borrowed the Naza flight controller and the four ESCs. To that I added:

  • HD Landing Gear, Medium Camera Mount, and Motor & Boom Mounts - from x486.
  • Avroto M2814-11S Motors and two additional DJI 30A Opto ESCs from Hobby-Drones.
  • Booms-Outrage Velocity 50 Tail Booms (cut in half) from Rc Super Sales.
  • Multirotor Power Distribution Board (AFROPOWER) from AbuseMark.
  • APC 12 x 3.8 Props from AlleRC.
  • Misc. screws and connectors from various sources.

I had absolutely no difficulty migrating or configuring the Naza to the new platform. During the process I also incorporated gimbal control and it worked fine during ground testing. The AUW is 5lb. 9oz. (2514g) without battery or camera. Here’s a pic:
