Hello and Quanum 680UC Pro Build

Hi all,

Firstly I'd like to say hi I'm new to the forums and I'm after picking your expert brains for some suggestions on motor/esc/prop/battery combos for a hex build I'm planning.

Are there any posts out there explaining how to choose these things?

I'm looking at using the following so far

Frame: Quanum 680UC Pro with the retractable landing gear (http://bit.ly/1hQd7kA)
Flight Controler: Pixhawk with 3DR uBlox GPS with Compass LEA-6H and 3DR Radio Telemetry

What I like about the Quanum 680UC Pro is the undercarriage/landing gear is easily detachable so I'd like to have a couple of undercarriage setups. One with GoPro style camera and gimbal and one with NEX5 and gimbal. I'm not after the cheapest components but I don't want to be spending £2000 on a gimbal if that makes sense.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks,

Richard

Welcome to the forum Richard.

There are many options for the frames these days. I'd make sure you check out reviews for people that have built one of these frames and see how they have been received.

Some of the cheaper frames with folding mechanisms have proven to flex a bit more than some of the more expensive, sturdier frames. This will lead to headaches when trying to prevent issues at the camera.

To determine the power combo you'll want - start with your budget, and the payload you plan to carry. Then you can work your way backwards from there, picking motors, ESCs and props to give you appropriate power for your needs.

Looking forward to following your build.
