Gonna build a cine star 8 and avrotos

I'm building a cine star 8 that's going to carry the cine star 2-axis gimbal and a gh2 for aerial video. I'm trusting the avrotos 2814 since they gave me excellent reliability on my previous hexa frame.

What esc's would a frame like this need? My previous ESCs running on the avrotos were proton 30A ESCs that couldn't support the firmware upgrade.

Hello

Since I am fed up like hell with DJI for various reasons, I decided to totally forget about WooKong, S800 and Zenmuse. While searching for an alternative, I came up with an almost identical set up like yours, just a bit different.
I bought the Cinestar 8 frame, the Cinestar 3-Axis gimbal (can be changed between 2-axis and 3-axis setup)...I will be using the Lumix GH2 like you and want to be more flexibel with lenses than it is possible with the Zenmuse. As a flight controller I will be using a Zero UAC YS-X6 and motors will be Axi 2814/22 V4 - I got a very good deal on them.
For Gimbal stabilisation I am waiting for the new Cinestar stabilisation:

As for ESC's I have not decided yet if I go for the Herkules II boards (less cables, more risk) or just normal ESC's (Power distribution is a nightmare with 8 motors)...will see.

As for your question with the matching ESC's to your Avrotos motors have a look here for a start:

As a very interesting read, I would recommend the following:

...also interesting:

This forum is a great source for knowlegde...

For propellers I have not decided yet...

What would be interesting for me to find out what made you choose a Cinestar and not one of the competitors....just wanna compare your reasons with mine.

In the meantime good luck with your build...

I choose the wookong because i had a heavy lifter hexa naza with the gps addon that came later and im used to the simplicity. I want the cine 8 frame for the smoothest flight and its ability to remove all the ugly vibrations that give bad video. I went for the 2 axis cine gimbal because people say its robust and enough space for the Gh2 and bigger cameras, i think they sell the 360 as an addon so i can upgrade later. Im picking 11x5 apc props they are inexpensive and don't break. Regarding escs and power distribution board im not sure yet

edit: I replied it from my android phone.

Lots of good info Chris,

I was going to go for the 30A DJI escs because its DJI, they are 400hz and I like the leads attached to the board but I've read that hobbywing/flashed escs upgraded to simonk perform better such as handling in the wind.

I wonder where people get their easy to flash 30-40A esc's because I think this is the best way to go economically without spending over $500 on boards.

I was told by timecop, one of the guys on rcgroups who knows all about simonk firmware update for ESCs to get the these hobbyking ones.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18966__Hobby_King_40A_ESC_4A_UBEC.html

Although these ESCs werent the first thing that popped into my mind when I thought about cinestar ESCs they flash really well and perform excellent for multicopters. Unless you are going Castle all the other ESCs people use on their multis such as hobbywing, maytech, dji are really just Chinese ESCs come from the same factory but marketed differently/usually pay more than you have to.

Is anyone else getting tired of hearing about the cinestar with avrotos and a GH2? I realize once the community has figured out a winning combination we all want it but there has to be something else out there that is better. how about Bart's XY8 under Hoverfly? I have it and it flies very smoothly. And it packs a way, doesnt show props in forward flight and handles WAY more wind. Cinestar has become the Coca-Cola of multis.
