FPV monitor setup?

Hi All,

I'm looking for some recommendations for a FPV monitor system to frame up shot angles, cropping, ect. Although the goggles and racing stuff looks like a lot of fun, I'm thinking for my purposes a screen that clips to my radio and a camera that gives the POV of my video would be what I need. I don't need a ton of range, just something to help me frame up shots that I'm taking.

There's a lot of products out there and I have no idea where start... Any direction would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

I've tried 2 different mounts for my 7" Black Pearl on my Spektrum DX8, and neither were worth the price of shipping. Flimsy, in the way of switches, etc. etc. Still looking, but I won't order another unless I get to hold it in my hand first. And those "trays" just look too bulky for me. Mean while, I do my Fat Shark Attitudes, and Skyzone's. Still haven't placed a favorite on either of those. Skyzones are more wide angle, but the Attitude's do have some nice color. Funny thing about flying FPV with a monitor, is when you fly across, in front of yourself. You're looking at the monitor, then all at once you catch the multirotor out your peripheral vision, kinda spooky, the first time.:)

I guess I could try goggles but I was thinking of using FPV more as a monitor to check my camera angle and then fly it by eyes once I have a visual reference...?

The Secraft trays are excellent and having tried a few the Secraft knocks the others into touch. It seems this is the tray used by the majority now.

I am using Black Pearl which I have attached to my radio using a Joby Ball head originally made for a Gorilla tripod. I just drilled a hole on the body of the receiver and used a standard tripod circular bolt from inside. It is perfect as I can tilt it to the best view. I will post some photos.

I've also wondered if when the monitor is mounted to the radio, if there is any interference. Sorta looks like the monitor blocks the transmitter antenna.

@luckymike, here's a thought: When I'm flying, I'm generally looking "up" at the UAV, so putting a monitor on my transmitter, which is in my hands, means I have a lengthy distance/head manipulation to change my perspective. Personally, I prefer to mount my monitors on a tall tripod. I'm 6'1", and it's tricky to find tall tripods, but I have a couple (used from B&H for like $10). What's trickier, is my camera person (the girlfriend), is 5'2" tall. If I want to look at what she's seeing, that's even trickier as she's up against the sun shield.

However, if I'm flying by myself, I like being able to simply adjust the focus of my eyes between my monitor and the MR. Otherwise, I'd have to move my head a lot and that's disorienting sometimes.

I have a Flysight "Black Pearl" 7" monitor - but I only use the 5.8GHz receivers for a relay to my actual ground station. In my opinion, the picture is good enough for framing. I've considered something like the Lightbridge and a larger monitor, but... I don't think it's worth all the extra money that I could be using to buy another good camera.

I have tried mounting the monitor on my receiver - always thought that walking around might be necessary - but so far, I'd rather stand in a good position and move my head as little as possible.
