Foreign Drone Operator Regulations, to fly in USA

Hi,

Is it possible for a foreign certified drone pilot to do commercial work in the USA without having to pass the RPC. I've contacted the FAA but they weren't really helpful, or it was very confusing.

If anyone here would be able to help, it would be great!

Cheers,

Ciarán.

I am certainly no expert, but a quick Google search turned up some of the following:

https://www.faa.gov/uas/faqs/ - Alternatively, if you want to operate your UAS as a non-model aircraft you must register your UAS in the country in which you are eligible to register and obtain operating authority from the Department of Transportation.

http://www.faa.gov/uas/media/RIN_2120-AJ60_Clean_Signed.pdf

- Foreign-registered small unmanned aircraft are allowed to operate under part 107 if they satisfy the requirements of part 375.
- Until international standards are developed, foreign certificated UAS pilots will be required to obtain an FAA issued remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating

However reading around page 52 of the second link it gets very murky. I guess my answer is, unfortunately, I have no idea, and you are certainly going to need to press the FAA and DOT for clear answers before proceeding.

Thanks for you answer. The FAA seemed to say the same thing, though until this morning were very confusing about it.

Now I have there answer:

"If the operation is flown within U.S. airspace then it must follow U.S. regulations.

And yes, you would need a remote pilot certification issued by the FAA in order to operate in U.S. airspace. Additionally, you will need a Foreign Air Carrier License as issued by the Department of Transportation."

Cheers,

Ciarán.
