First Heavylift

I fly a Cinestar 8 with 3-axis gimbal + 5.8Ghz video downlink, Panasonic Lumix GH2/kit lens, 2x 3S 1200mAh lipo for gimbal and video tx, 1x 4S 6000mAh for copter. I get roughly 9 minutes of flight time with this setup. I think if I added a second 4S 6000 in parallel I could probably get it up to 15 min (at a guess).

I have a hard time believing a fully loaded octo gets more than 5 minutes max on that 1 6000mah battery. I am running 8000 4s and get 4-5 minutes safely on my octo and that is flying a smaller camera. then again I am flying an X8.

same here can't get 9 min of a 6000mah 4s pack with my CS8, only with a 8000mah 6s i reached that range !

1.5kg is the recomended maximum payload. But not in 35+ degress celsius outside temperature. Scarlet is not an option on this kopter. Too risky.
For scarlet u need bigger motors and diferent power board. So or u go biger motors or stick with 1 to 1.5kg paylods.

Just want some tips about a heavylifter
My goal is to film with a canon 7d-5d and maybe red scarlet
i found this setup to start with http://www.quadrocopter.com/CineStar-360-Complete-Package-_p_523.html
i
s it a good starter?
And wich lipo is the best if i want to carry the 5d in exemple...is it possible to have around 10 min of flight with a type of lipo with this setup

tks guys really appreciate

Likewise 10000mah for 9min for me on CS8 using about 75-80% capacity. Maybe we are all using hungry motors to lift with :)

The Cinestar is a great frame and the QC3328 motors would be great for DSLR cameras. I wouldn't fly a Scarlet with it though. I'm in the middle of working out the details to upgrade mine to lift a Scarlet - a tricky proposition that you absolutely must get right. Learn how to use eCalc for multi copters - daunting at first, but fun once you get to playing with it.

I'm partial to the Hoverfly Pro for the flight controller - I like mine a lot. (Which if you read this forum much, you probably already knew that.)

Edit added for clarification:
We plan to fly a Scarlet with our Cinestar, but with bigger motors than the QC3328.

Hi Benjamin,

Is there a payload limit on the Cinestar frame. Obviously the right motor, prop, esc needs to be selected to maximise the lift but i was wondering what the frame limitations might be? I use APC props 14x4.7 atm and i would need longer booms if i wanted to go to any larger props but i am really not sure what the limits of the frame would be. Anyone got advice.

CineStar 6 lifting 30lbs

The frame will not have a problem with whatever you throw at it :)

Hi Bart,

We were using some prototype components we are developing in house for this flight. But any 40mm ish sized motor and appropriate (60 Amp) ESC should do the trick.

Batteries were 6s 10,000 Mah and the Props were APC 15x4.

Yeah I think ~65 degrees that day??

Best,

Thanks Tabb - I am running plettenberg 15-22, apc 14.4.7, maytech 60A but i haven't been game to see if i can lift the 8kg payload i would like to lift. I couldn't go larger than 14inch props without longer booms. I have only have a finger between the props. I am not sure how you got 15 inch props on there?
Remy

Of course its a hex hence more room for bigger props!
