F550 with Avrotos?

Anyone tried putting Avroto short shafts on an F550 yet? I've been dying to build out a hex lately and just ordered the 550. I've already got a quad built out with the Avroto's, so I thinking I would gut it and move all the stuff over to the hex, but I was curious if anyone has already gone down this road before.

Thanks!

Patrick from AerialMediaPros will have a stock of those Avrotos short shafts and Axi for our f550 very very soon!
He has taken a liking to the Dji F550 and will become a major player in helping us get successful combinations for the f550.
He also has been waiting on multiple supplies to come in, and checked in at the NAB show(new stuff), and spoke with DJI for the better.
If we can just wait until he says "go", we should be rewarded with some super options with Xoar, Avroto, Axi and more very very soon.

I'm sure he'll pull through.
He is very aware of the growing F550 fans.

Hi Terry,

I have been waiting for my AVROTO, and XOAR orders to arrive. Hopefully by the end of next week. I have the AXI Motors in stock, but waiting for the props to begin testing. I have been playing around with E-Calc, and everything looks like it will fly great. I figure the DJI ESC's are rated at 30 amps. and the Motors are rated at 25 amps. If all that is true, then we shouldnt have any problems hehehehe. I have a couple copters to use as test dummies. I will use XOAR 10x5 props to do some initial testing with. Shortly after, I will be testing out some other configurations. I have been paying attention to other peoples posts, and it seems there are others running the AXI and AVROTO motors successfully on the STOCK F550. I did manage to test out my 4S 8000 mAh lipo today :) The Stock F550 handled it great. Hovers at approx 55% Stick, and had plenty of climb out power. That was with my 550 fully loaded with FPV Cam, 12v PSU, and 1000mw 1.3 TX. That is going to be my new FPV Set up. I am really looking forward to diving into these builds. I will post some results as soon as I get them.

I carry a complete stock of Avroto motors and Maytech ESCs for those who need a good ESC to pair with the DJI controllers. If you have DJI ESCs use them as they are good. You can see what is available at www.hobby-drones.com

WOW?!?! Is this what MRF is turning into?

TooManyHobbies, I'm honestly starting to wonder if you are either a.) actually Patrick from AerialMediaPros posting as a satisfied customer that has to sing his praise from the highest rooftops or b.) getting some type of compensation for mentioning his name/business on here as often as possible. SERIOUSLY! I think we need to check your posting ip address.

My question was not "Who has Avroto's in stock", so why jump in and only offer your services for an item that you don't even have in stock if you couldn't even answer the OT. I already have Avrotos, so I already have a dealer that I get my supply from. If dealers start trolling this forum and plugging their shop every time someone asks a question, it's going to become a ghost town very quickly.

Maybe I'm over reacting here, but this action reminds me of ambulance chasing attorney's.

mailman, thanks for your input. Is that what you ended up going with? I saw that you didn't like with the 1250kvm motors on your first build. I think I'm going to bring over my Avrotos and 30amp DYS's from my current quad to this frame. I know the numbers work on paper, I was just wondering if anyone had already done this and what their real world experience was like.

thanks,
Terry

Kilby,
Sorry to let you down on the cloning project.

I'm actually just very pleased to find out that Patrick has more than just parts to sell.
Sit tight and watch the man do his work this season.
I have a strong feeling we'll all be impressed.

Cheer up, I just got exited to help.
I'll keep it on a leash next time.

AVRoto motors all come from Jim at montorc.com He is shipping them to all the dealers on Tuesday we have been told.

I do have some very nice CNC adapter plates for the AVRoto to Flamewheel that we are testing. Also, we have some flamewheel arm extenders that will allow for much larger props to be used.

Robert,
Are the Avroto's NOT a direct fit to the Flamewheel arms?

No, larger bolt pattern on the Avroto's. I guess you could drill the holes out on the flamewheel arms but these adaptive plates are very nice. I'm still not sure on the benefit of Avrotos on the flamewheel just yet til I test the combo out. And no there will not be a pre order Patrick. Get it?? :) LOL!!

It's good that you are doing some research on what will fit. I purchased some motors that were too large for the supplied mounts on my XAircraft Hexa frame. It was easily remedied by enlarging the mount holes with a Dremel. :) A little tweak here and there to get everything to play nice.

Robert,

I do have Avrotos in stock. Not that I am ambulance chasing. Just letting people know if the need them now.

for my suppo's to fit in both my 450 and 550 i had to widen the center hole a bit but i just saw that there are extension arms that let you mount the motors off the arms so all 4 screws can be used to mount instead of just 2 with locktite

i love how the hex flies so far with the 2814's on it. just need to tweak the gains as there is so much power there.

Mailman,

I could not believe how low I had to put the gains. I had it set up on a slider switch of my JR11x. With the slider all the way down (Which put the Atti gain around 65), It was still ocilating a bit. I had to reset the slider to the middle, and then go into naza assistant. At center, the slider registered the gains on ATTI at 100. I manually typed in 80 and hit write. Now my Gains travel all the way down to 50%. It seems to be flying great at 50-52%. I just thought it was crazy how low they had to be turned down. On Manual Mode, I have the gains around 100% and it is flying nice.

Patrick, which motors is that with? The Avrotos? Also, what battery?

What else do you have on the copter? Anything else adding weight to it? (landing gear, gimbal, camera, FPV gear, etc)

Terry,
The above setting was with AXI 2814/22 Droidworx edition motors, 12x3.8 Props, 4S 8000mAh Pack, FPV cam and 1.3tx. I am flying it for quite a bit more and dialing it all in before putting my landing gear and AV200/T2I back on. Although it lifted and flew it with ease, I was a little worried about the ocilations. I did not have the gains set the way they are now and believe that was the problem. I just couldnt believe the gains had to go this low. But it seems to be flying perfect now. A few more flights, and I will add all the weight back to it, and see if I need new settings.
