Extra Bits and Pieces?

Hello,

I'm new here and new to multicopters.

I'm just about to order all the bits I need to build my first quad. I will be using the Hoverfly Sport and I have decided on the motors, props, ESC's, batteries.

As this is my first build and I'm starting from scratch, some suggestions on all the other bits and pieces and sundry items I should add to the order would be great.

Hi Beach,

what kind of frame are you getting a MK frame, have you chosen already ?

Hey Boris, I will be making a frame from aluminium. As this is my first build I decided to follow the tutorial on the Hoverfly website. It seems like a good place to get started.

Welcome to the party! OK, maybe not a party but there's a lot going on so good luck kicking things off.
As far as extra bits and pieces go, zip ties come in really handy for securing wires and stuff as does electrical tape but chances are you've got that stuff if you're building yours from parts. Other useful stuff would be heat shrink, soldering supplies, a magnifying glass, a good work space with lots of light, a good quality wire stripper/cutter, as well as lots of patience and determination.
It's tough to say what hardware you should buy for the build as there are a lot of different way to do things so the nuts and bolts of it will probably have to work themselves out for you as you go.
Good luck with it. There are a lot of positive comments here about the Hoverfly boards so it should work out great for you.

Beach,
Regarding the soldering comment, you may not have to solder connections on the Hoverfly board but wherever you're joining wires like from the motors to the ESC's, the connections should be soldered. Some will say bullet connectors work fine, some will disagree but suffice it to say when the gremlins start popping up it can be extremely frustrating to track them down and loose connectors will only make problems harder to identify.
For what it's worth,

Thanks Bart. Thats the kind of info I'm after. Connectors, wiring, bolts nuts, etc. All the sort of stuff you have quantities of that come in handy, work in various situations etc.

beach, for fasteners I bought a metric wire stripper from mcmaster.com (part #69275K86) that cuts down to 2.6mm bolts so I was able to buy 2.6, 3, and 4mm bolts at 20 to 25mm in length and cut them to whatever length I needed. plastic hardware works well in a lot of situations but it's tough to know exactly what you need before the frame parts and elec. components start coming together.
