ESCs with BEC or not

I'm wondering what's the difference between ESC withBEC and OPTO.
What is their funtion？confused...

Some FCU's have an inbuilt BEC like the Naza, no need for external BEC so you can use a ESC with no BEC, some FCU's like the KK2 need only one BEC input from ESC #1 so a non BEC ESC can be used on that FCU, slightly cheaper and slightly less weight. And then there is the ridiculous Afro ESC that has only a 0.5A BEC when it should have been left off altogether.
