Best to get a big temp. adjustable soldering iron. That's the only way to get good joints with a wire that size. Just one bad joint and gravity takes over here's a pic of mine, not the best out there but does a brilliant job.

I'll get an adjustable one tomorrow. What temp is good for 10 awg.

I set mine to about 300-350C. Just see how it goes, you may need more! Get the wire nice and hot and the solder will flow properly.
