DJI F550 - Do I need to program / calibrate my ESCs?

I've been tweaking and flying my F550 for the last week or so. Last night, though, I was reading a thread on one of the forums talking about the critical step of programming (or calibrating?) one's ESCs during the build process. Somehow, I never heard a peep about this process when I was assembling mine, yet my system is flying ok. It seemed to involve attaching the ESCs to a battery and cycling the throttle from min to max (or something similar).

Did I misunderstand what was being discussed or is there a process I should go through to further improve and refine performance on my system?

If you have the DJI 30 Amp OPTO's, the answer is no.... but without knowing what ESC's you have, no one will know

Heh. Sorry I didn't clarify that it is a stock F550, so DJI ESCs and question answered!
