Well...like I said, I don't have all the data for dji's new e300 motors. However, when looking at a relatively similar Tiger Motors 2212 KV980, the difference in thrust generated by 11.1V (3S battery) and 14.8V (4S battery) is fairly significant.
9" prop on a 3S battery is only 270 grams of thrust at 50% throttle. A 1620gram hex will hover comfortably.
The same 9" prop on a 4S battery is 425 grams of thrust at 50% throttle. A 2550gram hex will hover comfortably.
