I have a couple of Pics - will try to upload them to upload them here.
The pics show the FPV camera fitted - the Gopro will fit in its place (without its case) and there is approx 17mm clearance from the ground.
You need to drill 4 extra holes to fit the legs and 2 extra to fit the battery / camera base.
Get 2 of the bases and that will give you more room to cut and shut to fit your gear if necessary - get the G10 ones, will do the same job and cheaper.

hope this helps

More Pics, also I had a Gaui "payload mount" on hand so that is sitting over the carbon Camera / Battery base up front, it saved me cutting up another Multiwii base, I also made it, (the base) to fit in the opposite direction if necessary.
The yellow on the screw heads are the ones that I drilled or modified.

Reread your post "I see they do mention that its sits in front of the boom/struts for the landing gear." This refers to the MultiWii Scarab not the Gaui...
"Allows a v1 Scarab Quad owner to upgrade to a v2 Stealth Reconn style setup and mount their GoPro well forward to keep the props out of the super video of the goPro."
The base plate can be mounted to suit your requirements, where I have mine mounted for the FPV cam is spot on for the COG in this instance. Move the battery forward or back for the balance.
