Advice for first Ground Station flight

I am ready to make my first Ground Station controlled flight. After nearly a year of building and flying quads and hexacopters by radio control, I have to confess, I'm nervous of giving up direction of the aircraft to a set of instructions from an iPad.

I've installed and tested the datalink hardware, run a few tests using the simulator mode of Ground Station but before I try it out for-real I'd appreciate hearing any advice or precautions from others more experienced in using Ground Station.

Run a simple route, keep your Tx close by and remember you can abort by going out of GPS mode. You can also start by doing auto take off and land and maneuver via the iPad.
