    powerline interference reader/meter?

Takes a bunch to kill/warp the compass in your FC, just don't fly within 50 ft or so, of HT lines, and you'll be fine. No fancy instrumentation required. You're far more likely to have an on-board issue with motor/ESC currents and a poorly laid out install, than any external mag field sources...

4s lipo how far to take them?

I use 3.45 volts per cell in-flight as a come-home voltage. Timers and on-board alarms are ineffective in the grand scheme of things. Telemetry is the way to go.

    XAircraft SuperX

I hope not either. I run 13s on one SX bird, and 14 or 15s on the other. Vibes are sub 0.4 on either machine. High vibes on large props ? Loose those plastics and get into some woods or CF. Above 12 inches or so, plastic, even filled plastic, is just not an OK material for props. Only time...

XAircraft Strange crash diagnosis ...very odd

ESC failure or electrical distribution open would be my guess. I can't call the frame failure as I can't inspect the craft, but that's certainly another possibility.

    XAircraft SuperX on heavy lifter

Paraphrasing Artie Johnson, a "Veeerrry Interesting" post. I, too, have tuned endlessly on my large hex, (1000mm), and I can't get it to fly "buttery smooth" like my smaller quad, (635mm), does. (Both have the SX installed) I sort of assumed it was the motor/prop combo that was not optimal...

XAircraft OSD + FPV Wiring Question

At present, I am not aware of any third party OSD that has "hacked" the X Aircraft CAN bus protocal. Hence their own OSD is the only choice.

Maxamps – what do you think?

Interesting stuff. I have never considered any of these due to the price. With no in-use data, I just assumed they were truly excellent. Maybe not ! And, yes all LiPo chemistry is pretty much the same. It comes down to sorting and QC. Some battery packagers sort the cells and select the...

XAircraft Ongoing problems - need help....

Motors look to be randomly out of true. No grouping, so it's not symmetric CW to CCW, just random. For anything other than hammer aerobatics they normally tend to show on the graph as tightly clustered lines with one almost covering the other. Did you use the straightedge method ? Works...

Is it normal for Zippy's to feel soft?

Source Resistance, the source impedance of the pack. R is the engineering symbol for resistance and any subscript would mean the resistance of something specfic, like a voltage source. I really don't know how to to subcripts in raw ASCII for posting on a board, so I put it up that way.

We know this, the CAN bus is I2C to the outside world. Most of the protocal has been hacked, dunno about the Zen commands and attitude data, which are the two things the Zen would look for. It's a matter of someone wanting to spend some months coding this for an Atmel MCU, or whatever, and...

Is it normal for Zippy's to feel soft?

These R-sub-s values are for the entire pack, it's the match between cells that drifts out with these things. I use 'em but they're not the best things on the planet.

    XAircraft SuperX on heavy lifter

Yep, like I said, I keep hoping someone will approach this design paradigm at a lower cost level or DJI will wake up and open the Zenmuse architecture up for other controllers. I have to believe there's a market waiting for this. (Yes I realize the DJI CAN bus protocal has been hacked and one...

XAircraft Help Getting off the Ground

The BB shows a host of issues: Motors not true to frame, ESC cal wrong or radically under propped, props/motors not balanced, etc.

    Vibrations in Wind

Gains are too high. Standard stuff to lower gains a bit in wind.

Is it normal for Zippy's to feel soft?

I have many Zippys, and yes, they tend to be somewhat more "squishy" than some other brands. I'm guessing they put more liquid electrolyte in than others. They're not that great of a battery either, cell-to-cell matching goes down hill quickly after repeated uses.

    XAircraft SuperX on heavy lifter

I've never investigated actual prices for a given torque rating, but they'd be more. The requsite drive electronics and sensor suite would be higher, as well. I also feel certain that the real issue is that these devices are made to at least commercial, and up to military, standards. Not to...

    XAircraft SuperX on heavy lifter

Closer, maybe, but the to the best of my knowedge, the Movi, (and the Zenmuse), both use legimate limited angle torquer drive motors, not repurposed brushless hobby motors. A Markedly different technology and *the* choice for serious gimbal systems such as aerospace applications. I keep...

When doing drives for media capture you would want to check write/read speed before and after, as well. The big player in the ESC thing is attempting to restrict infant mortality to the bench and not have it happen in the air.

    XAircraft SuperX

Bench power supply, external PWM signal source, test motor, (Maybe an actual in-use motor, depending), and away you go. Every few hours you goose it or change speed. The object is to eliminate "infant mortality" or DOA scenarios in the ESC's electronics, so you have some degree of confidence...

I fly Turnigy Plushes, as well. I burn them in on the bench for 72 hours before putting them in an aircraft, never had an issue to date.
