Phantom 2 H3-3D Motor/Prop Upgrades for extremely high altitude take off

I have a filming assignment in Bolivia, which will require a fair bit of trekking, which limits potential multirotor size and weight, and so am investigating if there are any motor/prop upgrade options that might allow for flying at nearly 4700m above sea level. I noticed that someone has flown...

$15 and more reliable alternative to RSGS/AV200 combo

After inconsistency and frustration with the AV200 and RSGS combo, yesterday, and a small mishap, I was forced into coming up with a quick solution for a camera mount for a 5Dmk3 on a Skyjib.. I grabbed my gorilla tripod, and some cable ties, and came up with what you can see in the pic...

Always break the same direction prop?

I've been flying multi-rotors for a few years now, and for some unknown reason, if I break a prop it always seems to be a CCW one.. I would estimate 12 out of 14 broken props have been CCW - the most common cause being landing on a slope and the multi tipping. Has anyone else experienced...

Designing a multi-rotor for very high endurance

I have been asked to propose a multi-rotor for use by anti-poaching patrols in East Africa. They want rangers to be able to launch a multi-rotor so they can scout the ground ahead to avoid walking into an ambush, and in the event of a contact, to locate the poachers before engaging. All the...

Flying at very high altitude - anyone managed 5,895 m (19,341 ft) ASL???!!??

I have been asked to fly at the Summit of Kilimajaro 5,895 m (19,341 ft) for a cinematic shot resembling a scene out of the film highlander, except subject will be a man on a phone! I have messed with ecalc and cannot for the life of me come up with rig modifications that will reliably work at...

    NAZA and GPS IOC

I want to try and use the Naza Intelligent Orientation Control (IOC) in a similar way to using the Point of Interest (POI) feature on WKM. As I understand it, in Home Lock, you need to be at least 10 metres from the home location, but will the craft then circle that location keeping it's...

Aeronavics / Droidworx XM-6 build nearly complete, any advice or criticism very welcome!

I'm in the process of completing a new build - based on the Droidworx XM6 frame. I'm not a complete newbie, but this is my first build from scratch.. previously I've put several flamewheels together and done a complete rebuild of a Skyjib 8 (after catastrophic failure).. Frame: Droidworx XM6 -...

Mounting a multirotor gimbal on a full size heli..?

Has anyone mounted a multirotor gimbal (AV200 or similar) on a full size heli? There must be a way to do it that envelops the gimbal in a wind and weather resistant casing.. obviously weight becomes less of an issue. Anyone with any experience or ideas on how to do it, please let me know.. Barny

    Flying in the rain

As it is the wet season here in Kenya I am regularly being frustrated by being grounded by weather. It has occurred to me that many brush-less motor driven fixed wings operate in the rain, so why shouldn't we? I'm not talking about torrential downpour, but, for example on my F330, the control...

    F550 motor upgrade options?

At the moment my Naza F550 is running a mix of 3 dji 2212 and 3 dji 2215... I know not ideal, but I'm in Africa and next day delivery is just not an option and it's what I had available. I am also carrying quite a weight, 3.4kg incl 2 x 3s 2200, and I'm at an altitude of 1750m. I'm waiting for...

    Hey from East Africa

I'm English by birth, but have spent the last 12 years in various parts of East Africa. I've been flying multirotors for several months now and am completely hooked. I do confess that there are possibly several dozen bits of rotor I have failed to find after some heroic initial crashes, but...
