Product Review ** DJI 1552 Folding Propeller

Thanks. Since I wrote the original review I have continued to be impressed with DJI's 1552 folding prop. It may not be the absolute best and most efficient option, but it is an excellent design and value for the price. With mounts out there for a variety of motors (e.g., from KDE) I think the...

Freefly Movi M5 Brushless Gimbal, Official Users' Thread

That's a lot of mass up against those rubber grommets. If it's sliding you could use a pipe clamp or similar to stop it. If the M5 is setup correctly the center of mass will always be directly under the toad-in-the-hole mount so another approach would be to re-work the mount and remove the...

New Pricing announced on Freefly Movi gimbals

I bought an M5 for $4,995 earlier this year. No regrets. Buying any tech item is almost guaranteed to result in paying more for less than if one were to wait.

    Product Review ** Invertix 400 3D Multirotor

Yes. I'm no expert pilot, so the whole inversion concept was a real challenge, but entertaining. At first I broke a few props, banged up the shell, broke a landing gear leg, etc. All was going well until I made a particularly bad move and hit a tree pretty much head on. The frame finally gave up...

Show what you filmed - Post Your Video Here

Thanks. I did minimal manual grading. I imported the ProRes file from the BMPCC (film mode) into Final Cut Pro, the used the FilmConvert plugin with Fuji Provia as the target stock (zero added grain). I did just a little additional color and temperature grading, but the vast majority of the look...

The ALL New DJI S900 Hexacopter!

Nice point. Switching into manual can really tell you a lot about how well things are setup.

The ALL New DJI S900 Hexacopter!

I've noted the same thing with my S1000. Even a little extra weight really changes how it feels. In general I think things work out best when the rig hovers at half-throttle right after takeoff (when the packs are at max voltage). If I can take off, switch into manual mode, and hold altitude...

S900 Owner's Thread and Mini Build Log

I see your post is edited to note you want to use a single radio with the A2. In that case I would not use a second receiver. Just link your 14SG to the A2 and map the channels in the assistant software. The typical setup requires 7 channels for flight control, 1 channel for gear, and 4 channels...

Yes, you can have one Futaba radio linked to the A2 and another linked to a Futaba receiver that is connected to the gimbal.

DJI S1000 horrible jello - help needed

If it were my problem this is what I would do. First, log flight data for each ESC (if you are using a DJI controller, get an iOSD Mk II). Maybe you can see where one or two arms are either running at odd power levels, oscillating, etc. Second, just check everything including balance. Be...

The ALL New DJI S900 Hexacopter!

The complex stuff I can see getting missed. I don't like it, but it might be arguable that cost and time to market could suffer with more controls or testing. Landing gear too short for their own gimbals? Ridiculous. At this point people who preorder or buy first are just begging for problems...

DJI S1000 horrible jello - help needed

Don't worry about it. 0.4Nm is a very low value. A little dry loctite in the threads can have a material impact on the measurement. You can do this by feel. Pick the aircraft up and rotate it so the props are perpendicular to the ground. They should hold position (motors may turn -- that's...

DJI S1000 horrible jello - help needed

No. Just back them off slightly. The prop should not wobble, but be loose enough to move very easily.

DJI S1000 horrible jello - help needed

I would start by backing off the prop screws a bit. My guess is the props are too tight.

S900 Owner's Thread and Mini Build Log

For a Zenmuse G3/G4/5D/BMPCC/etc. you have direct PWM inputs (each is its own channel) on the gimbal GCU. So you just take a channel from your receiver and feed it directly to the gimbal channel you want to control. With the Futaba 14SG and 7008SB receiver you put the receiver in mode C or D...

S900 Owner's Thread and Mini Build Log

With an SD video downlink (say at 5.8GHz) you can just use two 2.4GHz radios. I would go with a Futaba 14SG for control (that way you can get voltage telemetry easily) and the Futaba 8FG for the gimbal. I've done this with no issues at all.

S900 Owner's Thread and Mini Build Log

I've used DJI's NAZA, WKM and A2. I think each can be the right choice. It just depends on what you want. For a cost-efficient smaller build, the NAZA is great. You are limited to 7 channels, which can be a pain if you have an H3-3D and want to control tilt, for example, because you end up...
