    QAV500 FPV quad

Considering I built and flew helis for a few years before getting into multis that's not surprising...;) I have nothing that shows current draw, I recently installed a Remzibi OSD on it but no current sensor. I know Rusty did some bench tests on the Avrotos and the data is posted on RCG...

    QAV500 FPV quad

Don't know what the QAV weighs ready to fly, haven't put it on a scale yet. Right now everything is packed up and sitting next to the door ready for an early morning departure for a day of FPV, I'll weigh it when I get back. It feels heavier than my TBS Discovery and probably is, bigger motors...

First FPV flight of TBS Discovery

The company is in the next state over so the shipping was pretty cheap in my case, plus it arrived on the second day after I ordered it. First flight I used it on there was a noticeable difference so it's nice to have the other half in case I find one of the other quads needs it. Ken

    Where to place the antenna?

I doubt you'll have much trouble with the 25mw VTX on 5.8 but as a general rule try and keep the video and GPS as far apart as possible. Some GPS units are more sensitive to interference from the VTX than others and some frequencies for transmitting video cause more interference than others, 1.3...

First FPV flight of TBS Discovery

I don't know where you're getting the $120 pricing from, I didn't pay anything close to that for the green one I bought and I got it from Vibrationmounts.com... Ken

    Where to place the antenna?

Couple of things come to mind, first is that a 25mw VTX doesn't have a lot of power so unless everything about your setup is perfect you aren't going to get all that much range. Second is using the stock whip antennas on both the transmitter and receiver you're also limiting what the system can...

    Landing gear?

Simple and cheap to make or replace, 5mm carbon fiber rod with tie wraps holding them to the end of the arm. A couple layers of heatshrink tubing on the bottom gives them a larger footprint so they don't sink into the ground, I'd estimate less than $10 for enough C/F rod and heatshrink to make a...

First FPV flight of TBS Discovery

I just setup the Discovery with some new gear, should be even better for long range down on the deck now, I'll find out this weekend. I also got some pricey antivibration mat to put under the GoPro, in the couple test flights I've done with it I've been amazed at the difference, no jello in the...

FPV Gear - What to get?

As soon as I started flying further than the quad could be seen by eye I switched to EZUHF. I had good results with the basic JR 11X 2.4 out to 2000 feet but I knew I was pushing it at that distance, better to spend the $ for an LR system than have to replace the entire quad because it went down...

TBS Discovery & Naza // Vibrations, tweaks, gains and questions

The main difference between an FPV camera and the GoPro is the FPV cams are usually a CCD sensor which is a lot more tolerant of vibration so they usually don't need to be isolated from all vibration like the CMOS sensor in the GoPro does. On one of my quads I have a cheap CMOS FPV camera and it...

FPV Gear - What to get?

FWIW, I just changed my TBS Disccovery over to a Lawmate 2.4 gHz VTX and I also got the low cost Lawmate receiver. Last night I made a Crosshair antenna for the RX and a CP for the TX, just did a test flight out back and I cannot believe how much better the 2.4 is with this antenna setup VS the...
