    single rotor fpv

I'm having difficulty following what you're saying. But I was thinking just a single plate bolted onto the tail end piece (the part that clamps on the end of the tube), and the tail motor mounted to that plate, and then the tail rotor bolted directly onto the motor's shaft. But now that I...

So you guys both found that going to an independent tail motor helped a lot? Interesting. I had been thinking of trying that but I'm not sure how much motor I need. I've got an extra 35-36 910kV lying around. And a 28-30 880kV, but I doubt that is enough. Looks like the 910kV would give me...

    single rotor fpv

Interesting comments. As I say, I've been fighting vibration problems with the Arducopter system, that's the biggest issue at the moment. I don't really understand it because my quad vibrates a lot, I didn't even balance the blades, and it uses flimsy collett prop adaptors, the props aren't...

    single rotor fpv

Yes, absolutely. I only fly in "Stabilization" mode. In fact Rate or "Acro" doesn't really even work that well. In Stab mode, full roll stick gives you 45° of roll. Full up pitch is 45° of pitch. Center stick is a hover, etc. The 600 flies like a big Blade CX... only, it's a Coax that can...

Don't forget Arducopter, it flies SRH's too. Full autonomy, RTH, Position Hold, Mission Scripting, etc... Disregard the crash at the end. Programmer/Pilot error. I'm working on handing control of the ESC over to the autopilot, and I accidentally shut the motor off in flight and couldn't...

    Nex 5r & nex6

Could be pretty awesome if they do what I hope they do.

Have we come too far too fast?

Yeah, that's the other issue. Apparently it comes with a... Silabs processor instead of an Atmel, and people have had poorer performance from ESC's with those chips than the Atmel ones, and can't upgrade the firmware. But, since this is a multirotor dedicated ESC, maybe the stock programming...

Have we come too far too fast?

I actually never got around to ordering it unfortunately. I decided that the octo I'm building really needs 40A ESC's, so it wasn't suitable. Still, I probably should pick one up to use on my little quad. It would sure clean up the mess of wiring!

Two clients want me to fly their RED EPIC cameras - advice?

I don't disagree with what you are saying, a top quality helicopter build can be very reliable. My comments are mostly targeted towards novices, hobbyists, and new professionals. If somebody wanted to get into this professionally, with no previous experience, it's going to be a long and bumpy...

Two clients want me to fly their RED EPIC cameras - advice?

As a guy who's been working on doing this with both MR and SRH's... The advantage of MR's is extreme mechanical simplicity. They have 4-8 moving parts, and that's it. Also, the vibrational frequency they generate is high, and thus fairly easy to mitigate with vibration damping. It might...

How the pro's did AP at the Olympics

I was watching... I think it was the men's triathlon, the running stage. And the moving camera footage consisted of two guys on one motorcycle, the driver driving, and the camera operator standing on the footpegs at the back with a large video camera on his shoulder. Serious talent, but they...

Question of battery vs flight time

Ok, that looks pretty good, other than I think the throttle % at hover is high. It's more like 40%. But then maybe that is being masked in the code because there is some rescaling going on. It's no Ferrari in any case. The flight time is almost spot on.

    Quad type H

I'm not sure it really matters. I know it doesn't for Arducopter.

Question of battery vs flight time

I can't quite see what you attached. I think it's an example of my setup. But what is the hover percent?

Question of battery vs flight time

It just doesn't work for mine. It's about 1300gr AUW, quad, 2830-880 motors with 10x4.5 props, 3S-2200 battery. If I do it as "without drive" and a weight of 800g, is says 80% throttle to hover, 5.5 minute flight time. Not true at all. It hovers about 40-50%, and at least 7 minutes. It gets...

Just received what I wanted for a long time....THE PIRATEYE monocular video glasses

Doesn't this mean you have to close one eye to look at the aircraft? Won't the lack of stereoscopic vision mean you lose depth perception?

Question of battery vs flight time

Yes, I was wondering about that. With Ecalc I can't seem to get much over 20-25 minutes max, no matter what I do. Is it accurate at all? Edit: Huh. Well according to Ecalc, my current setup can't even fly, so I guess that answers that...

I don't know that I agree that servos weren't designed for this. I mean, think about where they are used. Tail control on a heli is a great example. They have a huge amount of back-and forth movements and they need to be ultra-precise. So obviously servo makers want to eliminate backlash. I...
